A fine 0.6 mm iridium centre electrode needs less voltage to fire than a standard nickel plug. That means quicker cold starts, a steadier idle and more complete combustion, with no misfires as the plug ages.
Iridium is six times harder than platinum and melts at over 2,400 °C, so the electrode barely wears. The ground electrode has a platinum tip, and the plug comes pre-gapped from the factory: check the gap, but do not re-gap it.
